Our mission is to improve FreeCAD to make it the best CAD software ever. But to do so we must be able to make a living. That’s where AstoCAD comes into play.
AstoCAD is a ‘soft-fork’ of FreeCAD. By soft we mean that AstoCAD is not really forking from FreeCAD. Instead it is always on top of FreeCAD. We build new features on top of the latest version of FreeCAD’s main repository. And after some time (one year or so), we push our new features into FreeCAD main. Our idea is to keep AstoCAD a step ahead, so that you guys are interested into supporting us, while still ultimately bringing all our new features into FreeCAD.
